The question of the establishment of the Union of masters of blacksmiths art in Ukraine is already settled juridically and practically. All the necessary documents are registered according the procedures. The Union has its seal, bank account and governing board. Its members are given with their first certificates. Blacksmiths art festivals of local and international significance as well as seminars and exhibitions are actively organized. The brightest example of it are festivals in Donetsk, Ivano-Frankovsk and the Crimea that lately have improved their level and sometimes are visited by more guests than festivals hold by other countries of Europe and CIS. It can be done due to the brotherhood of blacksmiths from the western, eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. For example, it would have been impossible to hold the festival in Ivano-Frankovsk that welcomed blacksmiths from more than twenty countries of the world without an active financial and organizational support of Donetsk and well-organized team of Crimean blacksmiths. The exotic and picturesque blacksmiths art festival in Sudak also couldn’t have been hold without support and participation of masters prom all part of Ukraine.
Holidays are taken very seriously in Donbass capital. And considering the fact that the City Day of Donetsk is held at the same day as the Miner’s Day, the level of all the festive events is double high. This year the President of Ukraine was personally present at the celebration of veterans of miner’s work in Donetsk that took place on the 28th of August. We can say that Viktor Andreevich respects blacksmiths as much as miners. That’s why he visited the 7th All-Ukrainian the Forged Figures Park-2005 Festival of blacksmiths art the same day. New works by the best blacksmiths-artists in Ukraine and the competitive spirit of the 1st Ukrainian blacksmiths all-round events championship impressed greatly not only the President but also all the festival participants and audience.
On our way from Australia to an Italian town Stia we crossed Italy from the north to the south so it was interesting to watch the landscape changes from mountainous Tyrol through flat Lombardy region of Emilia to mountainous regions of Toscany. Having turned off the highway, we had been driving on the serpentine rode with many mountain passes for a long time there…
Having reached the city, we were glad to see a big banner with the title ‘The world blacksmiths championship – 2005’ hanging across the road and started looking for a parking place.
There was an improvised exhibition ground for the blacksmiths’ works in the central public garden of the town. The place for competition holding was well-appointed. There were ten furnaces and anvils, some big standing-vices, all the necessary tools for handwork, and a broad range of rolled metal under a big shed.
